Mezquita Mosque, Cordoba
Now formally the Cathedral in Cordoba.
In 1523 the cathedral chapter finally persuaded Charles V to allow them to "christianize" the building. To his credit, after the work had been done he is quoted as saying:
"You have built what you or others might have built anywhere, but you have destroyed something that was unique in the world".
I think that this mosque is truly one of the wonders of the world, and when I walked in I cried in amazement.
The gardens in the courtyard shot from the bell tower add to the splendour.
