Four Spotted Chaser

A beautiful day - Summer really does seem to have arrived.  Let us just hope that it stays :-)

This evening I paid a visit to the water meadows next to the river Avon near Saltford, to see if I could spot any dragonflies.  I sensibly changed out of my shorts into longer trousers, but should have thought to put a long sleeved shirt on too ... those biting insects do seem to love me! 

I was fortunate to spot two of these dragonflies, one of which obliging parked itself on a reed for long enough for me to get a few shots off.  Interestingly it  is the same species that paid a brief visit to our garden yesterday, so I have managed to capture it after all :-)
