Newton
So, up early and out on the bike at 7.37am for a ride. I had a route planned and I wanted to be back for 10. Country roads inland from Seahouses, down through North Sunderland and Chathill and then over to Low Newton By The Sea where this photograph was taken at around 8.30 from the bench where I sat with a snack and stared at the sea for a few minutes. Back up through Beadnell and then as I got back to Seahouses earlier than I meant to I went a bit further up the coast to Bamburgh to stare out to sea for a bit more (never time wasted!) before making my way home. Just over 27 miles in total with 1 hour and 53 minutes spent riding according to my little handlebar-mounted gizmo. By far the longest bike ride I've done in years, in fact since 1992 when I was 23 years of age and at least a stone or two lighter. And I felt pretty fresh when I got back too, fresh enough to go and do the round of gift shops and the like with my family in the village once I was showered and fully caffeinated!
Spent the afternoon down at Low Newton (by car this time) - rounders, splashing in the sea, a walk along the beach - before finishing our short time away with great fish and chips overlooking the harbour back at Seahouses.
And then of course it was such a sunny and beautiful night when we got back to Edinburgh I just had to go out on the bike again for 11 miles of a familiar route. I might be paying for all this tomorrow of course but for now feels more than alright.
