A Day of many Boats
Early start to the day and already the morning was feeling warm and the forecast was for another warm day.
We were heading for Tarbert to get the ferry over to Cowal to spend the day in and around Kames and Tighnabruaich.
We couldn't have picked a better day for our trip unfortunately our two favourite tea spots, the tearoom in Tighnabruaich and the Barn at Millhouse, were closed on a Monday.
This has happened to us before in Tighnabruaich where the majority of visitors seem to visit on a Saturday and Sunday meaning that the cafes are quiet on the Monday and Tuesday.
Undeterred we got sandwiches and soft drinks from Duncan's stores.
This is a long established buisness in Kames. My mum, who is now 93 can still remember the original store which was named Duncan MacPherson's as it is right next door to her grandfather's house ,Sulphur Springs, her great gran's house Aliwaal North was next door but one :-)
For afternoon tea we headed out by Blair's Ferry to Carry Farm where the Dairy is set up as a self service tearoom with an honesty box for payment.
We had a cup of tea and some Lemon Melts biscuits (from a bakery on the Isle of Mull) and a seat outside on a shady bench where Maeve could join us :-)
After tea we headed back along to Tighnabruaich for a quick walk to empty Maeve and then headed to Portavadie and the ferry back to Tarbert.
We thought we had missed the ferry. When we arrived at Portavadie the ferry's ramp was up and the ferry leaving the slipway but to our surprise and delight the ferry master had obviously spotted us and proceeded to lower the ramp to allow us to drive on :-)
That saved us an hour's wait and we expressed our gratitude to the crew member who took our tickets :-)
A lovely day was had by all :-)
