An Early Supper

This is a female Scorpionfly - Panorpa communis 

It was quite intent on finishing its meal (a small fly) and allowed me to get the camera fairly close though it had had enough after three frames.

I blipped a male on 26th May 2014 though I have yet to get a decent one from the side that shows the male's scorpion-like appendage.

After further Googling and even closer scrutiny of every plate in my flower books, I am still no closer to identifying yesterday's flower but I will give it another 24 hrs before seeking assistance further afield.
