inspired by bespoke furniture
We visited friends in Gatesbield House today, a home 'built with loving care' in the Arts and Crafts style. The original owners, Stanley and Emily Davies, were both skilled at working in wood. Stanley designed and built much of the furniture in the house and Emily embelished it with her carvings. Here she has portrayed two workmen climbing ladders with buckets and hods of stone.
This is just a small section of a wonderful structure which divides the dining room from the kitchen. The cupboards and drawers open from the kitchen and dining room so that cutlery, crockery etc can be put in their places after washing and drying and then taken off the shelves or out of the drawers and placed on the dining room table. The result is timeless simplicity, which is why it is still in dailyuse.
It's an absolute classic.
