Robin at large

A view from the Gallery

Tolquhon Castle in Aberdeenshire near Ellon. The castle is quite hard to find, and involves about a mile along a single track road. The day was quite cloudy and became more so as the day went on.

Tolquhon is a 16th century castle, although fortified the fortifications were of a decorative rather than defensive nature, and intended to impress. The remaining ruins are managed by Historic Scotland. I stayed about an hour and I didn't see anybody else during my visit. Possibly this is partly due to the weather and the remote location, but I think it is worthy of more visitors. Still the area has a richness of castles.
