Henley-on-Thames
I can't say that I haven't struggled a bit leaving behind my beloved Oxford to spend a long (and rather lonely) winter in a small market town. These last few weeks it has become apparent that Henley is a town for summer with numerous music festivals (Elvis Costello! Adam Ant!) and of course Henley women's and the Royal Regatta coming up in the next few weeks - both of particular interest to a rowing household hoping to be racing there.
I did join a 'Philosophy Club' made up of 12 strangers who met via an internet group and who really discussed current affairs more than Philosophy, and in a very uninformed way. They are an eclectic bunch and I'm going to try and document some of our bizarre meetings: the whirling dervishes, the ex-wife of the French Army's golf instructor, the man who left his wife when she only wanted them to communicate through their guardian angels, the right-wing refugee, and the abandoned baby to name a few characters.....
