Blue skies and seagulls
It's been another gloriously sunny day in Edinburgh, and - once again - I haven't been able to take advantage of the weather. Mr hazelh, however, went on a 2 hour cycle ride and brought home these seagulls.
My day comprised writing a laureation speech, contributing to a discussion on research income targets, commenting on a grant bid, providing feedback on a Masters student's dissertation work, preparing for an invited seminar presentation in Glasgow next week, booking rooms for a visit from a Canadian colleague in October, checking budgets for a trip to a conference in Copenhagen the same month, confirming arrangements for a public lecture at the end of November, and editing the nth version of a journal article (that has supposedly been accepted, but keeps on bouncing back to us with new queries each time we submit the updated version - grrr!) - and by the end of the day my empty email inbox of this morning was bursting again with 113 new messages. Given that I'm in meetings nearly all day tomorrow and Friday, the backlog will have to wait (while, inevitably, it will grow).
Exercise today: solo morning running loops.
