Another of our Favourite spots to eat a packing up
We decided as we often do to go to one of our favourite view points and eat a packed up meal of sandwiches (Ham and Cheese) and Apple and of course a cup of Tea.
This is the view on the old road to the abandoned Peak Alum mine and Boggle Hole, looking down in the rather misty afternoon light onto Robin Hoods Bay.
Though it all looks natural and undisturbed, this is very far from the truth!
This was once a hive of Industry, with a history going back to the Reformation, the link tells all!
How Industry shaped the Yorkshire Coast
And a postcript about the Urine barrels: they were loaded with Butter and sent back down to the port of origin to improve the profit margin, and apparently were never rinsed!
Allegedly most of these barrels were sent to London and gave rise to the Southern preference for Yellow salted butter!
The mind fair boggles! but I digress,
What better place than one with such a view for afternoon tea?
