House and garden plants displayed on bikes and baby buggies, or brightly coloured guitars ukuleles looking as if they might be cheaper by the dozen? . . . Or something completely different?

Ipswich town centre has not only the usual range of national multiple stores busy with shoppers from all over Suffolk, but also a number of explorable areas on the periphery, where locally owned shops - some stocked with fine and exclusive wares and others of an arty or quirky nature - can be found.

I stopped off to look at some of them on my short walk back from the waterfront to catch the bus home . . . just one of the many and varied areas in this sprawling county town, where there is so much to see, packed with historic and architectural interest as well as serving everyday shopping needs.
