Long Waves at Westport Beach

17.8C and cloudy and misty. Light rain showers from late afternoon. Light Easterly breeze, later Westerly.

This morning we went to Westport beach and had a long walk along the sand towards Machrihanish. We walked further along than we have before, reaching Machrihanish Dunes golf course before turning round to go back. Maeve the Deerhound was in and out of the water for a paddle when the mood took her, mostly when there were pools of water on the sand rather than go in where the waves were running ashore. She seemed very much at ease today. The cooler day helped and she loves wandering along on the sand.

The waves which were appearing just offshore weren't big today, but they were very long. They seemed to almost instantly rise up from the nearly imperceptible swell for a hundred yards or so and quickly break, the white curl running along the length of each wave before it crashed over onto the sand in the shallows.

We went to Glenbarr for lunch.
