Day 15: Arbonne La Forêt - Auxerre

This was our longest ride - 125km - but thankfully it was flat and quite fast so we made it in Auxerre in good time. Apart from the first 10 km through the Forest if Fontainebleau, there was very little interest We were on bigger roads and the countryside was not particularly interesting so it was a case of "getting on with it". There was still quite a lot of evidence of flooding - fields in water, damaged crops etc.. Auxerre, however, is a beautiful city with very fine buildings and narrow paved street and if course a famous cathedral. After seeing the cathedral, we wandered the streets in search of somewhere to eat. Eventually, we ended up in "Au rendez-vous " - a bit more expensive than we might have chosen, but still very reasonable and very good. A group behind us were tasting different wines, we started talking - they were wine specialists and critic from all over the world, and we were offered a sip of a 1947 Chablis - excellent, surprisingly!
