Survival?

I visited the pond at work this morning and was a little surprised to see the ducklings from last week all alone. No mum in sight. They seemed fine and have grown but I'm not sure if they can survive without her.

The only other family of birds on the pond is the moorhens which I don't think will cause the ducklings any problems. I'll just have to see what happens....

This evening we went to the 3rd Stoke-on-Trent Literary Festival (known as Hot Air), to see Mary Beard talk about her recent book SPQR. The festival was started by Emma Bridgewater and her husband Matthew Rice and is held in the factory where her pottery is made in Hanley.
