Heritage

When we bought this house, we completely cleared the back to build the extension and the Moroccan garden.
We did nothing at the front and the small (12x2 ft) strip by the path keeps giving us the heritage of the lady who lived here for 30 years before us.
I have no idea what this is, but it's about the size of a football (whatever that is).
Not being gardeners, we do nothing for or to this space but it just keeps giving..
