Compianto sul Cristo morto

I don't often get affected by visual art. I enjoy it, and find it enriching, but rarely take away an emotion. Not today. This set of sculptures from the 15th century - in a chapel of Santa Maria della Vita - is absolutely chilling. There is a set of 6 figures standing around a dead Christ, but the facial detail on Mary Magdalene and her friend is absolutely astonishing.
