The Last Shift
Been meaning to get a shot of this sculpture which is just opposite my nephews' place. Bit tricky as it's on the edge of a housing estate, tried to minimise the backdrop. As you can see it's been subject to some vandalism - Why! But the power in the work still moves me having been brought up in the last throes of a mining community in Lancashire. A bit about the work below.
"Atherton’s mining heritage is depicted in a sculpture that has been unveiled at the Gadbury Fold housing development.
Created by renowned artist, Andy DeComyn, the artwork features three life-size miners in a pit cage and the ‘The Last Shift’ pays tribute to the history of the area and the way that miners, and their families helped shape their surroundings."
