The Red Kite

There were actually a pair of them, traversing the landscape in long gliding circles, well separated but locked into the same pattern. I don't remember seeing a single beat of their wings, such was their perfect mastery of the air. It was breathlessly beautiful to watch, and very much the highlight of my day.
