Sgwarnog: In the Field

Porte Cailhau

The evening before the main event, and an opportunity to explore some of Bordeaux.

Starting from our base near St-Michel, we walked down to the river, La Garonne, and a short way onto Pont de Pierre where we spied the Fan Zone up at Esplanade des Quinconces (extras).

Making our way to that, further spectacular riverside arches and buildings revealed themselves, including Porte Cailhau (main picture), built in 1494 to commemorate Charles VIII's victory at Fornvo and the more contemporary (2006) Miroir d'eau, reputedly the world's largest reflecting pool (extras).

A little culture as a prelude to le football.
