Mentzelia laevicaulis

Nearly crashed the van today coming up Tioga Pass, once I laid my eyes on his wildflower that has eluded me since I started paying attention to plants: the Giant Blazing Star. This flower (along with its other blazing star cousins) resides in its own family, Loasaceae. The blooms of this species can reach 6 inches in diameter. Their color is some kind of magic.
