Momentous Dawn

Oh bright morning
Welcoming
Cheering
Herald to a day of moment
A celebration
Of a nation's pride?
Or memorial

Roll Up! Roll Up!
To the greatest show on Earth
Blow
Emplazoned horns
Cheer
Laud those
Whose efforts
Have made this spectacle
Possible
Sing joyous praise
At monies
Cast
As pearls
To swine whose grubbing noses
Scrape
Each
And every pennied ounce
From pockets
void
Dry boned
By government extravagence
Successive
Each
Desiring
To prove
They are finally
The government
Of the People
For
The People
But
Instead
They are the drains
The leeches
The suckers of the nation's blood
Gathering
Harvesting
Hording
In their city of gold
Whose streets
Run
With the effluent
of corruption
Bankers

But this is not about
Those
Who care more
For bottom line balances
Than
The food in a child's mouth
This is a celebration
Of a people
Coming together
With all other peoples
Competing
Losing, Winning, taking part
This is about
Performers
In an Olympiad cycle
Running
Seven rings
Around
A world suddenly closer
