Dover - Shetland Day 26
Guardbridge (Nr St Andrews) - St Cyrus, Montrose
Distance cycled: today 69.6km, total 1736.3km
Ascent: today 330m, total 10,627m
Lowlight: torrential rain the entire trip, with some fog and buffeting wind to add to the fun.
Highlight: a deep roll top bath complete with hot water bubbles on arrival. First AirBnB stop with a bath of the trip and great timing for it.
What else? Another one on bridges, but my eye was caught by the photo competition publicised in the lift at the Dundee end of the Tay Road Bridge. This is to mark its 50th anniversary and you have until the end of the month to send in your snap. The adjacent rail bridge is well into its second century, thankfully being built far more robustly than the first which was noted for its "lattice and light design", but it only lasted for just over a year before being destroyed by a storm in December 1879, with a train and around 75 people being lost. The replacement was constructed and in use less than 5 years later.
Photo: another poor day for photography but a brief break in the rain allowed me to take this shot of Lunan Bay, my favourite beach in Scotland (it's the one you can see from the train between Stonehaven & Montrose).
