The height of technology
This week's blip challenge is 'Technology'. Today, this gadget arrived in the post for my husband. An upgrade to his (older) Satmap. A Satmap (or GPS) must be the height of technology in personal gadgets. It reaches to the skies to use satellite information to pinpoint your location with an astounding degree of accuracy. Scarily, it even shows which building we are in. If you have seen the recent movie 'Eye in the Sky' you won't be surprised. In 2000, the US government got rid of the error they had put into the satellite system so that civilians could use the information. One man didn't believe that they had done this, so he hid a bucket in the woods in Oregon and posted the GPS coordinates online, and said that if anyone was able to find it, he would believe the government. The bucket was found, and a new hobby was born - www.geocaching.com. There is now a plaque at the spot where this first geocache was hidden.
