A visit to Down House

Today I met up with my school friend and her mum. They were staying with friends not too far from me and so I collected them and we went off to visit Down House, the home of Charles Darwin in Kent. Unfortunately the weather was not great - just as it would brighten and you thought it would clear into a lovely day, it started raining again. We took a rather circuitous route to get there as my silly Satnav was up to tricks again and the journey took twice as long as it should have. My car is getting old,  and like my tired brain, probably needs a re-boot!

It was lovely to see my friend again and we all enjoyed seeing Down House where Darwin and his family lived for 40 years. Seeing a large map of the journey he did in the Beagle with Captain Fitzroy reminded me a brilliant book I read a few years ago, A Thing of Darkness by Harry Thompson which I can highly recommend. Down House is where Darwin developed his theory of evolution and wrote On the Origin of Species.

Luke went back to Durham today to pack up his room and will be coming home again this weekend, as will Adam, so from next week it will be a full house again - except for Gavin who will be away on a trip again!

Shocking news about Jo Cox, an MP who was attached and killed in her own constituency in West Yorkshire today.
