Morning light in Bockfjorden

Today we sailed round the northern tip of Spitsbergen and into Bockfjorden where there are natural warm springs.  The RIBs landed us on the beach and we walked up a hill overlooking the fjord.  The terrain is very rocky but here and there flowers are beginning to emerge from the winter frost especially in the area around the warm springs, mainly saxifrages in a vivid pink colour.  The light over the far shore of the fjord was amazing.  In the afternoon we sailed into Woodfjorden, landing at Mushamna and walked across the snow covered beach to a group of trappers' huts.  More birds today including a comparatively rare Ivory gull, Eider ducks, terns and Reindeer.  Back to the Nordstjernen and we sailed North through 80N; everyone celebrated with a glass of bubbly!
We reached Moffen Island in late evening and spent some time watching a large group of Walrus.  Up here in the high Arctic we are just getting used to 24 hours of daylight.  Now we are heading south again.
