Lathyrus Odoratus

Aceria macrorhyncha

Down to the allotment this morning to pick the first of the tayberries. I noticed that many of the leaves on the sycamore trees in the hedge that borders my allotment are covered with tiny red galls. These are produced by the mite aceria macrorhynchus feeding on the leaf cells which causes them to multiply and swell. The mite lays its eggs inside the gall.
