Alternative

I was disappointed to find it was not pure willpower that drove this canoe on at a speed of knots but rather a small engine cunningly disguised from the view by the helmsman/captain/owner of the vessel.

I was, however, rather pleased by the one dog crew suitably attired in a life jacket..... It rather made up for my disappointment....just saying
