Chianti Classico!

We had a gorgeous walk through olive groves and farmland with extensive panoramas over the valley, though we did get a few steep uphills . However we managed the 9 miles in under 4.5 hours which was just as well - we woke after our siesta to find it was pouring.

The hotel in Pienza is an old convent. Our cell is nice with a bedroom, bathroom and sitting room, but I think the place is having cash flow problems - they only take cash, the swimming pool is out of action 'awaiting repair' and the bar is a different business which occupies the only outside space - so closes in rain.

We had a slice of pizza and some Chianti before going into the church next door for a harpsichord concert. She was splendid - I'm not familiar with the instrument and though it seemed a bit plinky plonky to my untutored ears, it was evident she was very skilled and talented.

Forecast is more rain tomorrow - just to get us prepared for our return home.
