David Livingstone Footbridge, Blantyre

This afternoon we had a trip out in the new car, and went to visit David Livingstone's Birthplace at Blantyre.

I visited as a child, and vividly remembered the sculpture of Livingstone being attacked by the lion, and the globe fountain.

Very interesting displays, but the place is 'tired' and in need of refurbishment. It closes at the end of September for two years for an upgrade.

The view from the bridge up the Clyde. I am told this is a node, where structural elements of the bridge meet. This bridge opened in 1999, replacing the 1852 'Pey Brig' and a 1952 steel-trussed cantilever bridge.
