Oppdal on E6

Oppdal is a small town surrounded mountains and ski slopes, it's pleasant in a non touristy way, we like it here partly due to the wonderful bakery come Kafe for breakfast, a very very good filled fresh roll of ham, a little mayonnaise and lambs lettuce topped with small pieces of sliced picked red onion, fine bean sprouts and a thin coating of grated cheese along with another of those strong coffees they do so well, the girl serving me asked where we came from and later chatted some more. When there yesterday I noticed one of the girls pouring hot white vinegar onto a jar of grated carrots, today I asked if they sold small jars. They didn't but would check to see if they could make one up, did I want the carrot or grated apple? Both if possible please. After much consultation on the phone presumably to the owner we agreed a price choosing a shapely jar that can be used over and over. The young woman packed each jar with the food, poured on the liquid, clipped the lid into place and stuck a label on top, all looking very professional. We both clicked the image and they all decided it might be worth selling these in their deli.

A bit more chat and off to find road 70 to head west. A scenic route and some. Later a diversion onto a smaller road and now In the mountains where we have made the overnight stop with a view of undulating snow covered mountains. A wonderful day with awesome scenery.

And yes the sun is with us, it helps when constantly using descriptive words like beautiful, stunning, scenic.

Interesting facts:
I think it's easier to find LPG outlets (having read it was a rare sight) than buying a bottle of wine. Wine can only be purchased in a state run shop, supermarkets don't sell wine or spirits. In our limited experience these shops are available in a shopping complex seen in larger towns. But having said that drink drive here is a no no, absolutely. A few Saturday's ago John - well the cab really - was tested in the morning on the road into Mo I Rana. We asked about it and the young police man told us he was checking for alcohol in the cab. All clear. Presumably it's not only about people drinking during the day but to excess the night before. And now we wonder how much is excess the night before. Therefore lack of a wine shop is not a problem.
