Victory!

Miss L woke up very excited about the fete today.
The problem is we didn't know what she was talking about! Miss E's school fete is tomorrow and we assumed she meant that until she started sobbing that she wanted to go to the fete today!
Eventually we realised it was the fete in her teacher's village. It's halfway to Whipsnade Zoo so we thought we'd go and then carry on to the zoo.
The fete was brilliant. Miss L was giddy to see Mrs B, they enjoyed the tombola (winning a lovely tin of Stella for Daddy!!), they hooked ducks, bounced on bouncy castles, bought plants - spider plants and foxgloves, watched falconry and owl displays, guessed how many sweets were in the jar (hopefully they haven't won as there were millions!!) and bought books.
It was really lovely!
Then we had a fantastic few hours at the zoo. We went to the chimpanzee house for the first time in ages and timed it brilliantly - they'd just had lots of food put on top of their enclosure and we watched them for about half an hour climbing up to get it. It was fascinating seeing the hierarchy - the biggest took the best spot on a tree stump which meant he could reach the food without having to swing from the roof and support his weight while he ate. The smallest had to scrabble around on the floor for scraps!
My two monkeys played on the monkey bars in the playground for ages. They swing back and forth on them like it's the easiest thing in the world. When I tried I couldn't even let go with one hand to manage one rung!!
Because we'd gone late we were amongst the last to leave and it was lovely having the place almost to ourselves. We watched the otters playing and the red panda eating his dinner. It was ace!
Home for a very late dinner and then to bed. The Little Misses spent another night on their mattress tower!
