Olympic Diving
Wow! What a tremendous opening ceremony of the Olympics. Thank goodness for the internet and ExpatShield that allowed me to be a part of the celebrations. I felt such a sense of pride, we do things so very well and as for Queenie...amazing!
As the sun cooled a little later on in the day, I headed to the Corniche and found myself watching these men and children diving next to the local ferry.
The diving board is the rusty, old car ferry, that used to carry animals, cars, motorbikes and arabeyas across the river, before Luxor Bridge was built in 1998.
The Olympic swimming pool, is not in an Aquatic Centre, but is the River Nile.
The swim wear? No Fake Nike , anything goes, as long as it can survive the dive!
These guys provided so much entertainment for onlookers standing on the Corniche, as they bombed each other, threw each other in and diving in as the ferry docked (Scary and a little silly to be honest)
The naughty ones, ran through the ferry, leaving wet foot prints over the wooden deck. Flying up the steps to the top deck as they tried to avoid being caught by the Captain, who was frantically trying to stop them from jumping. He was totally flummoxed as they split up and dived from the railings before he could stop them.
People gasped as the engines roared and the ferry began to move, but the children loved the thrill of being so close to potential danger.
Good luck to Egypt and all athletes, I shall be watching you via I Player!
