INCIDENT
I had read on Facebook this morning that there was an ongoing incident in my village. It had started around 7.30am when a man had locked himself in a room of his house and threatened to shoot himself. His relatives reported this to the police and the area was flooded with police cars, ambulance and an armed response unit. When I walked down to the shops at around 1pm nothing had changed. I couldn't go my usual route to the shops as this would have taken me along a path to the left of this photo - and this area was taped off and guarded by a policewoman. Everyone had to go down the path to the right of the football pitch. Every road leading to this small housing estate was blocked off by police cars and residents had to stay indoors or be escorted out and in by the police. As you can see in my extra shot the press were there too - kept at a distance - as well as the local radio station Metro Radio.
I walked down to the village again at around 5.30pm to go to slimming club and everything was still the same except I saw more armed police and some with riot shields.
The rumour was that it was the anniversary of the day the man's brother had committed suicide and he was upset about this. I heard later that at around 7.20pm the negotiator had managed to persuade him to leave the house and give himself up. Glad it all ended peacefully and no-one was hurt. Hopefully he can now get the help he so obviously needs.
So our quiet village can get back to normal after a rather different Monday to what we are used to.
Becky phoned at around 12 noon and we had a chat while she was on her lunch hour.
My weight stayed the same at weigh in tonight.
I watched the England match on TV this evening. England had chances but in the end they only managed a draw to come second in their group. Well done to Wales though as they won 3 - 0 to go top of the group.
The day started off cloudy but it gradually brightened up and in the end it was warm and muggy.
