Meadow Cranesbill Weevil

I was up just after six, made some bread, marinated meat and prepared salads for a Father's Day barbecue, helped to finish the interpretative materials and popped out to get some necessary supplies, with just time for a bite to eat before heading out to set up Pete's event.

The weather was kind to us, being pleasantly warm, though as the afternoon progressed it became increasingly grey and breezy, a portent of things to come. There was a reasonable turnout, with about thirty participants, but for once there was a wide range of ages, from toddlers to senior citizens. Everyone seemed to have a really good time and the effort put into the interpretative materials was generally appreciated. The image is one of the smaller insects found on the day, a tiny black weevil Zacladus geranii, only a few millimetres in length, that feeds on Meadow Cranesbill

We arrived home about five, just in time to finish preparing the salads to accompany the barbecue. Jacqui and Alan (Lizzy's parents) arrived at about six fifteen, just as it started to rain, though we did manage a Pimm's in the garden before having to retreat inside. Pete had a proper rest, as Chris took over the barbecue - he commented that at last he's become a man!!  It was a really lovely evening - lots of laughter as well as bit of discussion about the forthcoming Referendum - fortunately we're all voting the same way!
