Fishing For The Seven Sisters, Birling Gap
After a nice breakfast at The Tiger Inn we decided to go for a walk that we had seen on a programme presented by Julia Bradbury to the Belle Tout lighthouse via the Birling Gap. It involved walking up a steep hill to the edge of the Downs and then down again to Birling Gap where we saw the stupendous view of the Seven Sisters white chalk cliffs (see today's shot). Luckily, at Birling Gap there was a cafe so we stopped for coffee and cake!
Then it was time to walk up to the Belle Tout lighthouse, which, in 1999 was, through a great feat of engineering, moved back from the fast eroding chalk cliffs. See today's other shot from the top of the cliffs (please mind the sheep shit - there's lots of it!).
