Pompidou Again
The last of our three days in Paris. This was taken from the Rue des Blancs Manteaux, between our two gallery visits. The Pompidou often peeks above the buildings in the area; this was a striking sight even without my little camera's zoom.
Our first exhibition was at the Hôtel de Ville (Town Hall), on the Popular Front, the alliance of left-wing movements that reigned briefly in France (1936-38), in a politically tempestuous period. It's a wonderful show, with myriad photographs, as well as videos of contemporary films. All the great photographers of the period are represented--just a delight to see. The second exhibition, at the Museum of Jewish Art and History, was on Lore Krueger, a German photographer who only worked from 1934 to 1944, due to personal circumstances; the surviving portion of her work was discovered only in 2008; she had a turbulent and fascinating life (here's another link; the Wiki article is only in French and German).
Edit: My regular email follower was especially perspicacious: "You can't fool me: You may claim that your blip is the Pompidou Center, but I recognize a spaceship landing on a chemical factory. Are you sure that's Paris and not Roswell [famous 'UFO landing']?"
