Bavaria - Not a beer history
Bavaria was actually a nation of wine drinkers until the ruling kings discovered they could make money from pronouncing a "clean beer" policy 500 years ago and have a monopoly on beer manufacturing..
This sign above the building closest to Ottobeuren's basilica says:
"1927 Wine Inn at the old vicarage" (or whatever the catholic term is for the building where the priest lives).
It's still today just as shown in the 1929 painting (see extra photo) but very sadly the building has been empty for many years. I cant think why it has not been taken on by a gastronomy business being so close to the basilica and at the top of the town square.
(2018 house has been done up and the town's infamous Cream Puff Cafehas moved in)
