Running Away to Sea on Tres Hombres

In Brixham Harbour, the heritage sailing boats, restored Brixham trawlers etc. are always moored together. Today I noticed a new boat among them - Tres Hombres. She is on the left. I looked her up on the internet, and found her to be not quite what she seems but constructed recently, and part of a movement called fairtransport.

'The 32 meter schooner "Tres Hombres" has been sailing since December 2009, transporting cargo between Europe, the Islands in the Atlantic, the Caribbean and America. In addition to her capacity for 35 tons of cargo she has accommodation for a crew of five professional sailors and 10 trainees. The name Tres Hombres was inspired by the cooperation of the three friends who took the initiative for this project.It is a pilot project to create goodwill and prove the feasibility for cargo transport using sail powered vessels.' The boat has no engine.

She leaves Brixham for Den Helder, Netherlands on July 29 and for 300 euros I can run away to sea and be a crew member for 383 seamiles. I thought I would tell Mrs Mover I was just going out for a paper.

Next to the name and the figurehead are some lines of verse which I had to look up.

He who binds to himself a joy
Does the winged life destroy;
But he who kisses the joy as it flies
Lives in eternity's sun rise.

The poem is called Eternity by William Blake.

Blipping is very educational, and makes you think of all the possibilities in life, even if you never get round to doing them.
