After a lazy day the day before, I got up early, packed my 60L backpack full of multi day kit, and headed off from Fort William down the West Highland Way. The plan was to do three days of it in two, heading down to the King's House by the end of the day, and then walking to Bridge of Orchy the next day and getting a train back from there.

The first section (Fort William to Kinlochleven) was probably one of my most boring walks so far. The ground was painful (very rocky), the views were average, and half of the people who I met were in a terrible mood. Those who I did talk to said that they really hadn't enjoyed the walk (I was doing the trip backwards so was meeting everyone on their final day) and really wanted it to be over. I could see why - it is a disappointment compared to most Scottish walks (although I have heard that the middle is better).

I was also very confused as only about 6 of the 100 people that I met were carrying overnight backpacks. I later found out that you can pay a company to carry your bag for you, but that seems a lot like cheating to me! One man even asked why I was carrying so much!! It was definitely a different crowd to who I meet on my usual walks.

So I got to Kinlochleven and decided that I had had enough. I got the bus back to Fort William and drove to the King's House to camp there, ready for a different adventure the next day. I even managed to finish my cow (in the picture) :)
