Lac du Salagou

I'm so lucky to have this place on the doorstep. So beautiful and tranquil. I love the colours especially - vibrant greens and reds. Lac du Salagou is actually a reservoir but it looks so natural you'd be forgiven for thinking it was a lake. There's a dam in one corner but the rest of it - several square kilometres in fact - has blended beautifully into the landscape. Locally the red sandstone is known as 'ruffe', Occitan for red. The whole area is a geological marvel - full of volcanic rock. Overall an amazing place and quite unique in France!
