Wildlife Walk with GWT

"Earth laughs in flowers"
 Ralph Waldo Emerson

And there were plenty of laughs today as R took us on a journey of discovery along the banks of the Usk from the Transporter Bridge to Marshall's.  He drew on history, language, geography, psychology, folklore and geology - amongst other subjects - to entertain and inform us about the place and  what he was showing us.  From the aptly named Bedstraws - for stuffing mattresses and dealing with little "pests" - to the dangers of using Belladonna as a cosmetic in the 17th century for enlarging the pupils of the eyes, his commentary was always interesting and often humorous and mischievous.  A really enjoyable couple of hours spent on the banks of the river in the company of a master storyteller.
