Raising the Flag

Today my children's school (belatedly) commemorated the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising. The rain poured down as pupils read a poem by Padraig Pearse and the Proclamation before the tricolour was raised.
Ironic perhaps that on the day Britain votes on whether to stay or leave the EU that we gathered to remember the events of 1916 when Ireland attempted to break from Britain. Today I think the majority of us are hoping Britain remains.
