Bird Dropping or . . .
. . . a Beautiful Carpet Moth - Mesoleuca albicillata on a nettle leaf.
At first sight this was one of many white splodges on nettle leaves and other woodland floor plants (see extra).
Most were bird droppings but it was the symmetry of this one that caught my eye. The moth was so confident in its camouflage that it didn't budge when I poked my camera in its face but it still posed a challenge. Exposing to get detail in the white areas left the black clogged up and exposing for the black, burnt out the whites. This is a compromise.
