Life Jacket

Our school managed to get hold of 50 life jackets used by refugees who managed to get to Greece. As the life jackets can't be used again we are using them as a service project to help raise awareness. Students and faculty were asked to volunteer and design their life jacket for an exhibition that we are hosting next week.
I sat down with my own kids and explained what being a refugee meant. It took a bit of doing as it's a very difficult thing to explain and understand, especially as we don't live in our country of origin. We decided that the life jacket represented hope so we made spring flowers to represent new life and new beginnings. The kids also came up with seven rules that they believe everyone should obey and wrote them on the back of the jacket. Pretty heart breaking stuff.

This evening we doubled our brood as we brought two children home to stay with us as their parents move into a new house. It was very noisy in our house this evening. The morning will be manic!!
