Vallée de Pineta - Monte Perdido

Currently we are staying at the Parador Bielsa at the end of the Vallee de Pineta in the Spanish Pyrenees. As you can see the it is a classic u-shape glaciated valley with vertical walls lined with waterfalls. Today we have a short walk up a side-valley which gives us a chance to check out the arduous route up the far side to the balcon de Pineta at the top of the waterfall in this photograph. Monte Perdido rises up another 3000' above the balcony - not a job for a single days' climb from the valley.
