The Bloodiest Day July 1 1916.
This is the Poppy Wave at Lincoln Castle commemorating the casualties of WW 1. On July 1 1916 The British forces suffered 57,470 casualties including 19,240 fatalities on the first day of The Battle of the Somme. A bloody slaughter.
I have included in my extras an additional shot of the poppies at Lincoln Castle and a poppy and cornflowers (the symbol of remembrance in France) from my garden
