People on a Bridge

Tea?

Brewing tea in microwaved water! In a plastic cup! Quelle horreur!!!

Various cultures conduct elaborate ceremonies to celebrate tea drinking, in buildings erected just to do so. Many traditional tea vessels and accessories are hand-made and one of a kind; knowledge how to make them was sometimes closely guarded and passed on from father to son (think: porcelain).

Drinking three cups of tea together makes families of strangers in Afghanistan. “Przyjdz na herbate”, come over for tea, is what Poles say to invite a friend over for a visit. Lastly, let us not forget the British!

Mindfulness, culture, tradition, celebration, and friendship get brewed, poured, and drank with each cup, all over the world. If you remove the ceremonial process, the buildings, the beauty of the accompanying vessels, even the traditional way to boil water, does the meaning still remain?

I raise my (ceramic) (tea) cup to your health,

…OR, you can simply call me an insufferable and pretentious snob, and we can call it a day.  :-)
