No. 5 Brace, Wonthaggi

I finally received Lightroom 4 by courier late today. Now all I have to do is figure out how to use the program. For me, at any rate, the hardest part of working with a digital camera is learning how to use the software effectively. I am not talking about simplistic programs such as iPhoto or Picasa, but rather Photoshop Elements and now Lightroom. I guess some people would view Elements as a simplistic program, but for myself, having been born at the end of WWII, getting my head around some of the concepts have proved difficult. I have pretty much got Elements sussed out - now onto Lr4. Then, in 4 weeks time Nik Software Bundle. Its gonna be fun.
I borrowed this book from the local public library by David duChemin who is a fabulous professional photographer. The title is "Vision and Voice: Refining your vision in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom." He writes predominantly about creating ones personal vision via Lightroom, as opposed to creating just a photograph. This is something I have teaching my students (painting and drawing) for many years, so I can really relate to it.
The above picture is of the ruins of No. 5 Brace in Wonthaggi. This is where the coal that had just been mined was transported to, for screening and loading onto the railway to Melbourne. Between 1919 and 1931. The whole thing is collapsing as can be seen. Its interesting subject matter.
The ruin is surrounded by a high wire fence topped with barbed wire and one has to stick the camera lens between the top of the wire fence and the barbed wire and take a shot, the camera then being held over ones head. Its only a 5 minute drive from home which is good.
