Post Office

George the postmaster opens the post office in Glossa on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It's open from around about 9:30am when he has finished delivering mail to the handful of people who aren't expected to come and collect it, until about 11:15 when he packs it all away to re-open in another village farther down the coast. Tuesdays and Thursdays he's normally based at the main post office in the main town.

Pensions are paid on the last day of the month. Utility bills are paid in February, June and October. National Insurance contributions are paid in June and December. 30th June is therefore a very busy day at the Post Office and so George was allowed to open it on a Thursday. I was there to pay my National Insurance Contribution, some were there to pay utility bills but most were there to collect their pensions.

All this money changing hands and the paper money I was pleased to see is kept neatly and safely in a box which originally housed a pair of baseball boots. The coins are kept in a zipped make-up bag.
