I stopped to look at the map. This chap stopped to ask if I needed help and we cycled together for a while. Then he offered to show me the starting point for a good way to Delft. He went way out of his way to help. I met a lot of helpful and very friendly people when I was away.

Bike maps in Netherlands are great. All the junctions on the national network have a number, and everywhere is well signposted. It's possible to write the numbers down beforehand and just use a slip of paper to navigate.
